Black Friday: who wins when you ask AI for a discounted gift for her?

Last week we asked Shopify's Agentic Catalog, the product feed AI shopping assistants buy from, for a discounted Black Friday gift for him. This week it's her: "black friday gift for her", "gift for girlfriend discount", "black friday deals for women" and 12 more, in four countries. Then we ran the same questions without the deal words, to see what changes when a shopper asks for a discount.

The podium

🥇 1st: Sugar Spring Co (159 points)

sugarspring.co · "To My Girlfriend" Forever Love Gift Set, $59.95 (was $97.00) · rated 4.8 from 53 reviews. Sugar Spring Co showed up in 27 of the 60 searches and was #1 in 5 of them. It has seven gift sets in the results, each written to a different person: girlfriend, wife, daughter, granddaughter, "the woman who changed my life". Every one of them was on sale.

🥈 2nd: Cherish Bond (111 points)

cherishbond.com · the same "To My Girlfriend" Forever Love Gift Set, $59.95 (was $97.00) · rated 4.8 from 3,203 reviews. Cherish Bond sells the identical gift set as Sugar Spring Co, with the same product code and the same photo. It made the top 3 in 9 searches and showed up in all four countries.

🥉 3rd: Basketful Gifts (108 points)

basketfulgifts.com · Boho Women Care Package, C$81.00 · rated 4.9 from 12 reviews. The odd one out. Only 1 of its 14 gift baskets in the results was on sale, yet it was #1 in 5 searches. Without the deal words, it won the whole test.

The runners-up

Three of the runners-up, Family and Gifts, Atroposcrystal and Softavio, sell the same Hug Necklace with the same photo and the same price. In all 12 searches where one of them appeared, at least one of the others was in the same results.

The top stores in each country

Unlike our gift-for-him test, where one store won all four countries, no store owned "for her". Sugar Spring Co placed in the top 3 everywhere, but each country had a different winner.

Why they're winning

1. Reviews, again. Every top-10 store has reviews. A third of the other stores have none.
2. A ready-made gift wins. A necklace in a box with a message card beats a necklace on its own. Three quarters of the top-10 listings are a set, box or basket.
3. Say who it's for. "To My Girlfriend", "To My Wife", "Gift for Wife": the winners put the person in the product name, so they match "gift for girlfriend" and "gift for wife" directly.
4. One product per recipient. Sugar Spring Co has a version for a girlfriend, a wife, a daughter and a granddaughter, so it answers more of the questions.

What changes when the shopper asks for a deal

1. More products are "on sale". 73% of results carried a "was" price for the Black Friday questions, against 52% without the deal words. In our gift-for-him test, the share barely moved.
2. Bigger discounts. The median discount went from 40% to 50%. Results claiming 50% off or more went from 40% to 59% of on-sale results.
3. Copy-paste deal stores take over. 15 stores with titles like "💖Black Friday Mega Deal – 50% off!💖 Women's Waffle Knit Long Sleeve Top" showed up in 17 of the 60 deal searches and made the top 3 in 13. For "black friday deals for women", one of them was the #1 result in all four countries. None of them appeared once when the shopper didn't ask for a deal. We left them out of the ranking above.

What this means for Shopify merchants

• Sell the gift, not just the product. Box it, add a card, name the person it's for.
• Collect reviews before Black Friday. They are the clearest gap between the top 10 and everyone else, in both of our tests.
• "Black Friday" changes who shows up. For women's searches, stores with copy-paste "50% off" titles and no reviews win the deal questions. If one of them copies your product, the shopper may never reach you.
• The AI doesn't check your "was" price. A store claiming 50% off looks like a better deal than an honest 15% off.

How we tested

• Where: Shopify's Agentic Catalog, which Shopify offers to AI shopping assistants to find products across Shopify stores.
• Countries: United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Australia.
• Searches (15 per country, 60 in total): black friday gift for her · black friday deals for women · black friday gifts for girlfriend · black friday deals gift for wife · gift for her on sale · discounted gifts for women · best black friday deals for mom · black friday gift for her under $50 · christmas gift for her on sale · black friday jewelry gifts for her · cheap gifts for her · gift for girlfriend discount · cyber monday gifts for women · what to buy for her on black friday · black friday deals on women's gifts
• Control: the same 15 questions without the deal words (gift for her · gifts for women · gifts for girlfriend · gift for wife and so on), another 60 searches.
• Scoring: in every search, each store earns points for its best-placed product: 10 for 1st place, 9 for 2nd, and so on, with at least 1 point for appearing at all. A store counts once per search. Ties go to the store seen in more countries. Men's items, gift cards, gift wrap and listings with copy-paste "50% off" deal titles are left out of the ranking.
• Discounts: "on sale" means the product page shows a compare-at ("was") price above the current price. That price is set by the store, not verified.
• Prices: each store's most-shown product, checked on November 1, 2026. Results and prices change daily.

This ranks how visible stores are in AI shopping search, not how good their products are. We have no relationship with any store listed.
